The body of late Nollywood veteran actor Sam Loco Efe is to be buried on Friday, August 21, 2011 in his Benin residence. This was announced by the family of the actor recently in Benin City.
Nigerian Entertainment Today learnt that a ‘Sam Loco Efe Burial Committee/ Foundation‘ has been set up for the purpose of the burial. It is to be headed by the late actor’s eldest son Bismarck Nosakhare Efe. Peddie Okao is to act as Coordinator while Ogie Ogedegbe will play Secretary of the committee which is made up of mostly Benin resident actors.
Bismarck disclosed that the delay in the burial was due to the Police’s insistence on carrying out a post mortem to find out the cause of the his late father’s death. However, the family is yet to receive any form of autopsy report, the deceased’s son said.
On the choice of an October date, Bismarck explained that the wisdom is to avoid the rainy months as the family wants a ‘befitting burial’ for the late veteran actor.
According to PM News, a secretariat has been opened at 14, Cooke Road, Benin City, Edo State where the committee will coordinate activities concerning the October 21 burial. Bismarck urged all other committees working towards the burial to work with the Benin based committee in order to have a smooth plan of events. And speaking on the controversy surrounding the number of children the late actor left behind, Bismarck states that there are only six of them consisting, two boys and four girls.
President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AUG) Segun Arinze also informed NET that there would be a tribute night dedicated to Loco Efe, although they are yet to set a date and venue.
Sam Loco Efe passed away on Saturday, August 7, 2011 in Owerri at the age of 69. The cause of death is still unknown
