22Currently in development is a scripted feature film titled Bleeding Sunshine, directed by Yaa Boaa Aning, that tackles the illegal trade of human beings for the purposes of commercial sexual exploitation and/or forced labor.

Starring Subile Nabor, Adjetey Anang, Leon Davids, Chris Attoh, Omar Captain, and Amanorbea Dodoo, the film’s synopsis reads:

An academically gifted school girl risks everything to save her destitute family, and finds herself ensnared in an international human trafficking ring that puts her on a collision course with some of the most powerful political forces in the world.

Director Aning, who’s past credits include mostly crewing for several Hollywood studio films (in the Costume and Wardrobe Department and Dostume design departments) like Fast & Furious, DreamgirlsThe Kingdom, xXx: State Of The Union, and others, is making her feature film directorial debut with Bleeding Sunshine, which she describes as a commercial action/drama, with strong social commentary.

You can find a lot more information about the project (like a much longer synopsis and director’s statement) on its website. Although if you prefer surprises, I’d suggest not reading all that detail.

Aning did write and direct an award winning short film titled, The Prince of Venice, in 2008.

No word yet on when we can expect to see the film.
